How I met Aaron: The game of Cat and Mouse

Skateboard noises went off in my ears as I eyed the skateboarding blond to my right. Someone had just come up with the bright idea to go to McDonalds.

Then I heard someone say "Yeah, we will go as soon as Aaron gets off the phone with his gggiiirrrlllfffrriiieennnddd."

Girlfriend? GIRLfriend? girl.friend. ?????????

Aaron found a girlfriend while he was in Utah but she was still IN Utah. We wouldn't be going on that date. POOF. Forget about it. It's really my own fault for getting so worked up over the date promise. Afterall we had no commitment to eachother what so ever. I was just hopeful.

I'm not going to go in to what happened in the month or two Aaron had a long distance gf. We still talked/hung out as friends in groups, like I said before, my roommates were all friends with his. Just know that we were all young, crazy, and out of our minds. And a lot happened. But that's not important.

I got the best news of my life one afternoon (a month or two later), via text message:

"Aaron just broke up with his girlfriend" sent from my roommate who knew I liked him
"Really??? Wait, I guess that's sad."
"Yeah, I guess. It just happened, I was here. You should come over and cheer him up!!!!"

I didn't. But I have to say that I was a little excited inside. Aaron wasn't too distraught, after all, they had only seen each other for like a week before he left back to Hawaii, and he broke it off with her.

We started to hang out more, now that he didn't have a girlfriend. Like a lot, but always in groups. Aaron was really good friends with my roommates boyfriend, Jantzen, so we would all hang out ALL the time, in the group setting of course. Aaron worked his magic on me, whether he knew it or not. Aaron would flirt with me so much, and hug me, and poke me, and PLAY WITH MY FRAGILE HEART, flash those baby blues at me. I would melt.

One night, I had a break down.

I had just returned from work and was sitting on our extra mattress in the middle of the upstairs floor, on the computer. Kim and Jantzen where to my left, being Kim and Jantzen. Aaron came over a few minutes after to say 'Hi' and was paying so much attention to me, was being so nice. Then, his phone rang, and he said he had to go, like it was no big deal. And truthfully, it really was no big deal that he left, but to me, I was furious. I had-had it with this cat and mouse, this never ending circle. It was obvious he was interested in me, and I thought I was making it obvious that I was interested in him--but it was just going nowhere.

After he was gone, I looked at Jantzen and said

"Why does he do that. Does he even like me?? Or is this a joke?? You tell him that if he ever wants a chance with me, he better make his move and do it quick, or I'm done!"

Jatzen told Aaron what I said that very night.

Unfortunately for Aaron, I was so confused about what he was trying to do, that I accepted a 'do you want to meet up at foodfest' date? (can you call it that?) a few nights later to go to Foodfest (a cultural carnival BYUH sponsored community event where the different Culture Clubs from the University serve food from where they are from) with another boy.

The night of Foodfest, I ran into Aaron almost within minutes of getting there. And I'm ashamed to say that I completely forgot about boy I was supposed to meet/run into/hang out with. Aaron and I stuck to each other like glue, just like the first night we actually hung out. We ended up leaving together after the event was over and hanging out at my house.

As we chatted about nonsense Aaron asked
"Do you want to go take a walk down to the point?" (a 45 second walk down the street)
"Uhh, sure?" A little confused as to what he was trying to do.

As we walked down the darkening driveway, Aaron grabbed my hand. I looked over at him, and all he had was a huge, silly smile of his face. My stomach was, stomach? I had lost my stomach. I couldn't feel my feet as I spun in a dizzy trance of girlish delight. When we arrived at the wall that separates solid ground from the tall cliff drop into ocean abyss, the full moon shone down on us as the ocean spanned the horizon in it's soft, sleek, jelly-like state. Aaron put his arm around me, pulled me in quickly and laid one one me.

Cat had caught mouse.

********Well, that's about it, unless you want me to keep going on to our post-first kiss dating life (when I broke up with him two weeks later.....just a taste.), it was quite the adventure, but I don't think anyone is half as excited about it as I am. Thanks for playing***********

Aaron: Do keep this and write more if you like but your kids (especially your girls) will love reading this. I have enjoyed it so much since your were so far away when this wonderful romance was growing. Love you both.
