Two weeks later.
As I sat on my bed, attempting to understand the gibberish that is Saussure, my phone rang. I heard it but I couldn't see it. As clothes were flung amidst towels, electronics and every girl product imaginable, I discovered the sounding device under my bed. As I flipped my upside down head right side up, I looked at the caller ID. It was a number I didn't know. I cautiously answered.
"helllloooo?" I questioned
"Hi! This is Aaron!" sounded from ear piece.
"oh, umm, Hi!" I stammered out in my frazzled state
"Hey, I'm looking for Tiffany. She left her phone at my house and I found your number in it. Is she there?"
"Uhhh," still in shock.
"I wanted ask if I could borrow the surfboard she left here, for my friend."
"Um, she's not here. I'll tell her you called. BYE!"
"Okay, thanks, BYE!"
The end-call time flashed on the screen for a few seconds as I stared at it. He called me! I was so excited. But he hadn't called FOR me. I must say I was a little crushed that he wasn't calling to ask me out, or to at least hang out, or AT LEAST to get married. I tossed my phone on the bed as I walked away toward the kitchen. Better luck next time.
Over the next few weeks I experienced some hairy housing situations with my current residence. Almost the week these problems started happening, I was presented with the opportunity to move just down the street, and I jumped at the chance.
A few days later I huffed and puffed and moved everything I owned three houses down. That very day my new roommates where throwing a party for one of the my new roommates, AJ. I didn't really know these new roommates yet, and was hesitant to even go to the party, but I knew I had to. I had to get to know them.
I arrived at the party and instantly felt out of place. I knew almost no one there, but I made every effort to blend in and make numbing conversation to pass the time. I glanced over at the door way at one point and my heart skipped a beat. There he was, walking in with his roommates. He made his way slowly through the crowd, high fiving, hugging, talking, and then ended up right in front of me. We talked and talked and talked.
That entire night we stuck to each other like glue, partly because he was the only person I really knew there, and partly because I was in love with his face. The party settled and returned with a few stragglers to my new house, Aaron was one of them.
As he sat on the big, blue tattered lazy chair in our home, he patted the arm rest, signally me to come sit down. As I plopped myself onto the arm rest, he pulled me onto the huge seat so we were sitting right next to each other. He started to talk about how he was leaving THE NEXT DAY to return home and visit with his brother, for a month, who had just returned from a mission. I was inwardly a little perturbed, but he left me with this enticement:
"When I get back from Utah, I'm going to take you on a date." I QUOTE. That's exactly what he said. I think my face turned bright red, and I don't even know how I replied.
The next morning, Aaron left for Utah. We didn't talk for an entire month, with the exception of one text message I sent him the night of our house's traditional Halloween party, telling him how much fun he was missing, to which he replied with something but I can't remember what.
A few days after Aaron returned from Utah, my roommate and I went to Owen's ( a mutual friend) home to all meet up after his absence. (My roommate was dating one of Aaron's good friends, thus we all hung out a lot.)
As we walked up I could see Aaron skateboarding a little off from the crowd, with his phone up to his face. He hadn't seen us yet.
Little did I know that I was about to find out that Aaron had a surprise in store that would alter the course of his previous promised notion of a date.........
