Back in April of 2005, I was a naive, crazy, 18 year old, basking in the new found independence of completing my first year of college. I had flown the Oahu coup for Spring and Summer term in hopes a fortune ($$$$) in California before my next school year started.
While I was away from my island, I had been running up my phone bill by talking to my soon-to-be off-campus roommate, Tiffany.
Tiffany, in her own pursuit of hitting the jack pot enrolled in a Radiant Research study, now called Covance. It's basically a drug testing facility, were they pay you to test their drugs (prescription) on you before they give the drugs to the general public (sometimes they are already on the market, just a new form). It's a popular student 'job' because you get a lot of money, in little time; even if you start to glow afterward. This particular study was a sleeping pill study, lunesta. She would say, 'it's so easy, I just sleep all day.'
About a week before I was set to fly my butt back to Hawaii (August), Tiffany called me and had started the study. She was on lock down in the facility for about 10 days. She wanted me to come visit, as I would arrive at our new house before she would be allowed to leave the rat cage.
I would ask her how the study was going, what she did etc. But all she could talk about were these two cute boys, Dave (who wasn't in the study) and Aaron. But mostly Aaron, she had a huge crush on him. That was the first moment I ever knew he existed.
I left for Hawaii the next day.
The day after I arrived, I went down to the Radiant Research, in Honolulu, facility with my guy friend Noal to visit Tiffany. When we arrived, we were instructed to walk around to the outside terrace, and talk to her from behind the grass stretch, from behind a chain link fence (sounds like I was at a prison cell.)
As my warm hands grasped at the cold, chain linked fence, I remember a gust of wind tussling my hair into my eyes. I unlaced my fingers from the metal holes and swiped my hand across my forehead in a fruitless effort to control the madness.
Once I got control of the curtain of the blondish/brown mess, I saw him standing there next to her. He was looking slightly down at the ground, his left arm up by his hair, fidgeting with the end of his long blond shine. His right hand waved back and forth and he muttered a shy 'hi. I'm Aaron. Nice to meet you.'
And I know this sounds completely cliché to say, but I really had a crush on Aaron from the moment I saw him and it was completely superficial none the less. I was in la la land. I can still see it clear as day, him standing there. The blond, the tan, the blue eyes, the tallness of him, the muscle of him. Droooolllllll.
Just as I was coming out of la la land, Aaron was ripped from my sight (so dramatic), forced to return to his rat cage.
We said our goodbyes. I headed off with Noal to Noal's friend's (who he wanted me to date and fall in love with) house in town (town=Honoulu) to go beach camping that night.
I wouldn't see/hear from Aaron for another two weeks.

i meant "met".
You are a great writer I can picture it all just like a movie in my head. The show must go ON. . .
What a great first chapter to a wonderful novel! Question: are you and Tiffany still BFF's even though you married her crush? Maybe I'll find out in the 5th chapter, maybe even sooner?
Looking forward to the next chapter. Love your story so far. I fell in love with him the first time I met him. He is very awesome! LOL
Just wanted to say "Hi!" for the first time... I've been following your blog for many months and I love it! It brings back many happy memories of when my husband and I were first married. We met at BYUH many years ago. Seems like just yesterday in so many ways. We've been married 19 years now and are still very happy together -- despite all we've been through. The Lord has always seen us through.
Can't wait to read "The Rest of Your Story." If you'd like to meet us, my husband writes a blog: http://15minutesofdelusion.blogspot.com Come on over!
Thanks for sharing so many great moments -- and silly ones, too!
