Hawaii Makes me OCD

Photo booths rendition of me tonight

First, let me throw this out there: I love living on Oahu.

Now, among a tan, a laid back life style, wonderful food, fresh off the tree fruit, and a good life, Hawaii also offers me OCD.

Sometimes, I feel crazy because I think I have a problem. But then I remember that my OCD is rooted in Hawaii's climate and bug population.

If I don't hang my towel up after I shower, it will SMELL within minutes.

If I don't wipe the counters down after every meal, ants WILL come. By the thousands.

If I don't do the dishes at night and leave them for the AM, ants will come. By the thousands.

If I don't ring out my sponge after every use, it will smell within minutes.

If I don't close my windows when I leave my house, it will rain, and the area surrounding my windows will be soaked, including but not limited to, my bed.

If I don't sweep daily, cock roaches will appear.

If I don't wipe my feet off after going to the beach before getting in the car, my car will fill with sand and sink to the bottom of a puddle during the next flood.

There are many more.

In a way, I feel like this will make cleaning a PIECE of CAKE if I ever live anywhere else. I've got it down.
But it's also tiring.
And I guess I should realize that if the ants come, the sponge smells, my towel stinks and my sheets are wet, life will go on. And then I will go to the beach.

Thanks Hawaii but, no thanks.

Ha ha...this post made me laugh! That's A LOT of cleaning...you must be a pro by now! I'm really OCD about stuff... it takes me 20 minutes to check my home before I go on vacation...It's insane. Ha ha

i totally agree. i still get freaked out when i see people leave food or dirty dishes out for more than five minutes...thinking ants or other bugs will start to appear.

and i'm pretty sure the sponge thing is universal, no matter where you live...unless you're in utah, where moisture just doesn't exist.

We were the same way in Hawaii. Since coming back, slowly we've (I've) gotten messier and won't always do the dishes right away, or we'll leave with the windows open. I felt like such a neat freak in Hawaii, but I would do anything to avoid seeing roaches.

There was a black paint spot in the hallway at my school here, and when I first started working there, I freaked out every time I saw it. Hawaii has lasting effects.

For reals! But I'm tellin' ya, it's so worth it! I wish I could get back to the island now!

I remember one time, Steffie J and I left food in the trash can....bad idea....we woke up the next morning to an attack of maggots....we spent the next couple hours searching for them and flushing them down the toilet....(:

Oh, how I miss Hawaii!

oh my gosh!!!! so true! I about died when we moved here and discovered the bugs. I HATE them. I have a two year old so I feel like it is a constant battle making sure she doesn't get crumbs everywhere!

Nightly routine... sweep everywhere, dishes, wipe down counters, and take out the trash. :)
